Gino Banks’ ‘Legacy’ brings Louiz Banks’ hidden gems back to stage

Like his father, jazz legend Louiz Banks, drummer Gino Banks is building his career on reinvention. His latest offering, ‘Gino Banks’ Legacy’, revisits the elder Banks’ lesser-known compositions with a new generation of musicians. The project premiered recently at the Studio Theatre of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai.

Conceived as an Indo-fusion set, ‘Legacy’ reimagines Louiz Banks’ repertoire through a contemporary lens. Gino was joined on stage by bansuri player S. Akash, sarodist Pratik Srivastava, keyboardist Deivat Tapodhan, bassist Aditya Ahir, Carnatic percussionist and konnakol artist Ganesh Murali Iyer, and vocalist Jyothishri Raghuram.

The performance aimed to bridge generations — bringing Louiz Banks’ compositions to younger audiences while giving emerging artists space to reinterpret them. For Gino, the project is both a tribute to his father’s musical depth and a step in his own journey of reinvention.
