Novartis launches Pluvicto in India, country’s first approved radioligand therapy for prostate cancer

New Delhi: Novartis India has launched Pluvicto (lutetium 177Lu vipivotide tetraxetan) in the country, marking the first regulatory authority-approved radioligand therapy for eligible patients with Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA)-positive prostate cancer.

Designed to precisely target prostate cancer cells while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues, Pluvicto introduces a new treatment approach for metastatic prostate cancer in India. The company said the therapy addresses a disease that continues to place a significant physical and emotional burden on patients and families across the country.

Metastatic prostate cancer treatment has long relied on hormone therapy, chemotherapy and radiation. With Pluvicto, doctors now have an option that delivers radiation directly to cancer cells expressing PSMA, a protein found on most prostate cancer cells.

Novartis added that the launch expands access to advanced precision oncology in India, giving oncologists a targeted tool for patients who have limited options left.
