NASSCOM forms UK Tech Advisory Council to boost India-UK AI and trade ties
NASSCOM announced the constitution of the UK Technology Advisory Council on Thursday at the NASSCOM UK Forum held at the High Commission of India, London. The TAC will act as a strategic industry advisory body to the High Commission of India in the UK.
The council will provide structured inputs to accelerate India-UK technology partnership. Its focus areas include the government-led Tech Security Initiative on Artificial Intelligence, enhancing cross-border trade and investment, talent development, and streamlining ease of doing business. The aim is to help meet the India-UK FTA target of doubling bilateral trade and achieve Vision 2035 goals.
TAC will work to strengthen the India-UK Technology Corridor and position Indian technology companies as trusted partners for the UK’s digital ambitions. The UK remains the second-largest market for India’s technology industry, while India is the second-largest source of FDI into the UK.
A NASSCOM report ‘Indian Tech in the UK: Powering UK’s Growth Story’ was released at the event. It found leading Indian IT firms support more than 35,000 jobs across the UK. Nearly 62% of their workforce is located outside London, contributing to regional growth in Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire, Birmingham, Reading, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
India’s High Commissioner to the UK Periasamy Kumaran said technological collaboration plays an increasingly important role in bilateral relations. He noted the Indian IT industry is committed to creating high-value jobs, building local talent and fostering innovation in the UK.
