Rockwood: Astrophotographer Bray Falls runs Starfront Observatories, one of the world’s largest “telescope ranches” on 40 acres near Rockwood, about 80 miles east of San Angelo.
The site is rated Bortle 1 for dark skies and hosts nearly 1,000 telescopes in 12 buildings. Owners ship their gear to Texas, where staff mount it on concrete piers aligned for precision tracking.
For $99 to $149 per month, clients can remotely control their telescope from anywhere to capture high-resolution images of space. Roofs roll back at night, and the facility has 24/7 security.
Falls, known for deep-sky imaging, says the ranch gives stargazers worldwide access to dark skies without building their own observatory.
