Coal India profit jumps 57% in Q2 on higher offtake, prices
State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) reported a 57% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 6,547 crore for the September quarter of FY27, driven by higher offtake and improved price realisations that offset higher input costs.
The company had posted a net profit of Rs 4,167 crore in the year-ago period. Consolidated revenue from operations rose 21% to Rs 44,179 crore from Rs 36,553 crore.
Offtake during the quarter increased 12% YoY to 186.34 million tonnes (MT), primarily driven by higher power demand. Production grew 4% YoY to 151.37 MT, though it fell short of the target of 157.83 MT.
Average price realisation, covering fuel supply agreements, e-auctions, washed coal and other categories, rose 7% YoY to Rs 2,346.21 per tonne.
The company’s cost of materials — including explosives, oil and lubricants, heavy earth-moving machinery and spares — increased 20% YoY to Rs 2,752 crore.
The board declared a second interim dividend of Rs 10.25 per equity share for FY27. The record date has been fixed as November 4, 2026, with payment on or before November 27.
For the first half of FY27, net profit rose 19% to Rs 15,397 crore while revenue grew 14% to Rs 90,433 crore. The company also registered capex of Rs 7,965 crore in H1.
CIL said it has incorporated a Singapore-based wholly-owned arm, CIL Global Pte Ltd, in August to explore overseas opportunities in critical minerals acquisition.
