Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath & Sons’ released as lavish family drama with progressive themes

Chennai: Director Venky Atluri’s Vishwanath & Sons (VAS) starring Suriya released as a big-budget family entertainer.

The film follows Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), a wealthy Olympic shooter and business tycoon who avoids marriage due to past insecurities. He fathers a child, Abhay, through surrogacy at his mother Nirmala Devi’s (Radhika Sarathkumar) request. When the child falls ill, Sanjay brings surrogate mother Maddy (Mamitha Baiju) home, leading to emotional complications as she develops feelings for him.

Set against an opulent backdrop, the 161-minute drama explores surrogacy, age-gap relationships, and personal choice. Despite convenient, larger-than-life moments, the film is grounded by strong performances from Suriya, Mamitha Baiju and Radhika Sarathkumar.

With GV Prakash Kumar’s music and Atluri’s controlled storytelling, VAS balances commercial masala with progressive ideas, ending on a note that respects boundaries and emotional maturity.
