Italian conductor Alessandro Bonato to make India debut with SOI in August

Mumbai: At 31, Alessandro Bonato has emerged as one of Italy’s most promising young conductors. He currently leads the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento and has collaborated with several other orchestras and soloists across Europe.

“My approach does not change with the orchestra I conduct. I prioritise preparation and respect the musicians I work with,” the Verona-born musician said.

Bonato is now set for his India debut with the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI). He will conduct concerts on August 26 and 30 as part of the National Centre for the Performing Arts’ Autumn Season 2026.

The season opens earlier this month under British maestro Martyn Brabbins, who took over as SOI’s chief conductor earlier this year. Brabbins will lead the first two concerts on August 16 and 21.
