Apple unveils new iPad mini with OLED display and thinner design

Apple on Monday unveiled a new iPad mini, calling it the biggest update ever to its smallest tablet. The new iPad mini features a larger 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, up from 8.3-inch in the previous generation, within the same footprint thanks to 24% thinner bezels. The tablet is also thinner and lighter at 5.4mm thickness and 255 grams, compared to 6.3mm and 297 grams earlier.

The OLED display delivers up to 1,200 nits peak brightness, more than twice that of the previous model, 600 nits full-screen brightness and 2 million:1 contrast ratio. It also comes with a new nano-texture display option to reduce glare in bright environments.

It is powered by the new A20 Pro chip, which Apple says offers up to 60% faster CPU and 2.7x faster graphics performance than the previous generation. The device also features an innovative Acoustic Display with woofers integrated into the display, a 12MP Center Stage front camera now placed on the landscape edge, and IP67 water and dust resistance for the first time on iPad mini.

Other upgrades include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, fast-charge support and iPadOS 27 with next-generation Apple Intelligence and Siri.

In India, the new iPad mini starts at Rs 82,900 for the Wi-Fi model and Rs 1,00,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. It comes in midnight and starlight finishes and in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options. Pre-orders begin on October 28, with availability from November 6.
