South Florida teens build app to donate 25,000 pizza slices to families in need

Florida: Two South Florida teens with a penchant for volunteering have used their IT skills to build an app that facilitates the donation of pizzas from local restaurants to local charities.

It streamlines the donation process, allowing anyone to send fresh pizzas from any nearby restaurant to any nearby charity of their choice.

Designed 2 years ago by 8th grader Aashrita Kaza and her brother Anish, the Pizza For A Purpose app has led to the donations of 25,000 slices of pizza to food insecure families in places like Broward County.

“The reaction really warms our hearts, their faces just light up the second they get the pizza,” Aashrita told CBS News for the ‘Miami Proud’ segment. “It’s very rewarding because it makes everything we do worth it.”The idea first came to the siblings when volunteering at local charities. They had some understanding that there are adults who can’t always afford fresh pizza, but what really drove them on was seeing food insecure children as well, something they admitted they didn’t know existed in 21st century America.
