New Bikaner House exhibition explores AI as an artist’s tool, not a replacement

New Delhi: Artificial intelligence may be changing how we think about creativity, but a new exhibition at Bikaner House argues that technology is not replacing the artist. Instead, it is giving artists another medium to express themselves.

The show, (Re)claiming Rights of Render(ing), is presented by NewArtX (NAX). It brings together nine major contemporary artists who have moved beyond the familiar worlds of paint, stone, and bronze to explore digital fine art.

One example on display is by Riyas Komu, known for his hyperrealistic portraits. For the exhibition, he has created a digital work depicting the moment of Mahatma Gandhi’s death — 5:17pm on January 30, 1948.

The exhibition positions AI and digital tools not as a threat to traditional practice, but as an extension of it — a new canvas for contemporary artists to experiment, reinterpret history, and push the boundaries of fine art.
