OpenAI targets business users with new AI model as competition with Anthropic heats up

OpenAI is shifting its focus toward business users, with executives saying the company will introduce a new artificial intelligence model built for “high-value professional work” as competition with rival Anthropic intensifies.

Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said the same ChatGPT chatbot that gave her a tilapia recipe for a recent Sunday night dinner is also now handling her routine tasks at work, like summarizing emails and Slack messages.

Friar and other OpenAI executives are betting the company’s future on expanding those workplace uses. The move signals a broader strategy shift toward business-oriented products while scaling back some consumer offerings as a pathway to profitability.

OpenAI currently boasts more than 900 million weekly users of its core ChatGPT product. The upcoming model aims to capture enterprise demand as the AI race with Anthropic and other rivals grows more competitive.
