14 acres of golden sunflowers return to Scotland’s Balgone Estate
A sea of golden sunflowers has returned to Scotland this August, drawing visitors to the countryside an hour-and-a-half outside Glasgow.
The Balgone Estate near North Berwick has reopened its popular Sunflower Trail for 2025. First launched in 2023, the event proved so popular it is now an annual fixture. The fields will remain open to the public through August 23.
Spanning 14 acres, the trail invites visitors to spend up to two hours wandering among the blooms. The estate provides fun props for photos, with the backdrop of the Berwick peak visible across the landscape. Drone shots this week showed endless rows of yellow stretching across the East Lothian estate.
Guests can also pick their own sunflowers at $1 per stem. Food trucks are on site for refreshments. Ten percent of all sunflower sales will go directly to brain tumor research, estate managers said.
Manager Alex Humphreys said Balgone Estate also rents out event space for yoga classes, wine tastings, and art workshops during the season.
Once the sunflowers fade, the estate will transition into autumn. It is already known for hosting Scotland’s largest pumpkin patch, making Balgone a year-round destination for seasonal attractions.
