Tim Cook calls India ‘huge opportunity’ as Apple eyes second-largest smartphone market

Cupertino: Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said he is “over the moon excited” about India, calling the country a “huge opportunity” for the tech giant during the company’s second quarter 2026 earnings call on Thursday.“

Yes. I think it’s a huge opportunity for us. We’ve been focused on this for a while. It’s the second largest smartphone market in the world and the third largest PC market,” Cook told analysts.

Cook’s remarks underline Apple’s growing focus on India as a key growth market. The company has been expanding its retail footprint, boosting local manufacturing, and increasing iPhone assembly in the country over the past few years.

India overtook the United States to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market by volume, while its PC market ranks third globally. Apple has seen rising sales in India amid strong demand for premium devices and a wider push into tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
