Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting Wins ‘Monumental’ Asian Games gold after olympic gender row

Nagoya: Taiwan boxer Lin Yu-ting won a “monumental” Asian Games gold medal on Friday, saying she was “grateful for making it through” after considering quitting following the major gender row at the Paris Olympics.

The 30-year-old beat China’s Yang Chengyu 5-0 in the women’s 60kg final in Nagoya, giving her a second Asian Games gold after winning in the 57kg class in Hangzhou three years ago.

Lin’s victory comes more than two years after she was at the centre of a gender eligibility controversy at the Paris 2024 Olympics, alongside Algeria’s Imane Khelif.

Lin posed with her gold medal during the ceremony for the women’s 60kg boxing event at the Asian Games in Nishio, Aichi prefecture, on Thursday.
