Mumbai: Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, October 9, 2026, staging a rebound after a sharp selloff on Thursday.
The BSE Sensex opened 183.43 points, or 0.26% higher at 71,776.67, while the Nifty 50 opened at 22,314.95, up 83.15 points or 0.37%. At 9:27 am, Sensex was trading at 71,931.95, up 338.71 points. telanganatoday.
The Nifty IT index led gains, jumping 2.73% to 28,604.75 in early trade, hitting an intraday high. Nifty FMCG rose 0.96%, Private Bank 0.56%, PSU Bank 0.47%, Metal 0.26%, Pharma 0.22% and Auto 0.12%.
The IT rebound came despite a major regulatory action in the US announced on October 8. US Labour Secretary Keith Sonderling said the Department of Labor would suspend eight major firms from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme and not accept new or pending PERM applications.
firms named were Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, HCL Technologies, Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe. The department attributed it to multiple active federal investigations.
TCS, which reported its Q2 results on Thursday, said in an exchange filing Friday that its PERM applications were “in single digits in the last two years” and it does not expect the suspension to affect workforce strategy. It said its US strategy is anchored in local hiring and it plans to hire 15,000 more in the US over five years.
