Mundra takes off: New airport to cut travel time for trade, tourism in Kutch

Adani Mundra Airport began scheduled commercial flight operations on Tuesday, June 23, marking a major connectivity push for Kutch. The airport launched its inaugural flight in partnership with regional carrier Star Air, connecting Mundra with Mumbai and Goa. Star Air will operate 8 new air services from the new terminal, creating an express corridor for trade, commerce, logistics and tourism. Direct flights will connect Mundra to Mumbai, Goa, Surat and Hindon, while passengers can access onward connectivity to Kolhapur, Belagavi and Nanded. Bengaluru is also on the route list. The airport will start with 29 weekly flights, with Ahmedabad expected to be added soon.

Adani Airport Holdings Director Jeet Adani said the air link is a calculated move to fuel the economic engine of India’s largest private port, Mundra, and the country’s largest notified multi-product Mundra SEZ. The connectivity provides the critical last-mile link to integrate trade volumes with national and global supply chains. The airport is also expected to boost tourism by improving access to Mandvi Beach and other cultural destinations across Kutch.

Built on Adani Group’s development model, the airport features a 1,900-metre runway capable of handling a wide range of passenger and cargo aircraft. The modern terminal includes spacious parking, multiple check-in counters, comfortable lounges, a full-service food court, wheelchair facilities and dedicated passenger drop-off zones. Jeet Adani said the terminal was completed in record time.

The launch came as Adani Group announced plans to invest ₹90,000 crore to ₹1 lakh crore across all its airports over the next five years. Jeet Adani added that the group will bid aggressively when the government opens private bidding for 11 new airports. With the airport now operational, Mundra has emerged as a rare logistics ecosystem with access to seaport, dedicated cargo railway, and passenger airport. The Adani Mundra Airport is the third airport in Kutch region, after Kandla and Bhuj.
