May GST kitty swells to ₹1.94 lakh crore on stronger supplies, imports

New Delhi: Gross Goods and Services Tax collections rose 3.2% year-on-year to over ₹1.94 lakh crore in May, driven by improved supplies of goods and services and continued expansion of collections from imports, government data showed Monday.

In May 2025, gross GST collection stood at ₹1.88 lakh crore. The latest data points to sustained momentum in economic activity and compliance. Officials attributed the growth to higher domestic consumption and a steady uptick in import-related GST.

The May figures mark another month of collections above the ₹1.9 lakh crore threshold, which policymakers view as a benchmark for healthy tax buoyancy.
