UPI transactions hit record ₹29.90 lakh crore in May on summer travel, IPL boost

Mumbai: Transactions through the Unified Payments Interface hit a record high in May, driven by summer travel and IPL-related spending, data from the National Payments Corporation of India showed.

UPI clocked ₹29.90 lakh crore in value and 23.2 billion transactions in volume terms last month, the highest monthly figures recorded so far.

In April, the value of transactions stood at ₹29.03 lakh crore, NPCI said. Against the same month last year, May’s value marks a 19% jump from ₹25.14 lakh crore in May 2025.

The surge reflects higher consumer spending during the IPL season and the peak summer holiday period, with travel, food delivery, and ticketing seeing sharp upticks in digital payments.
