Mani Ratnam’s next titled ‘Inji Vellam’; First look shows rain-soaked romance
Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s next has been titled Inji Vellam, with makers unveiling the first look on Monday, September 7.
The motion poster, released by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, shows lead pair Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi sharing an intimate, warm embrace in the rain, hinting at an emotional romance drama.
The title, which translates to “ginger water,” is said to reflect two contrasting personalities coming together — like ginger and jaggery in something warm and familiar.
Details regarding plot and supporting cast remain under wraps. A major portion of the film was shot in Kolkata, including around the Howrah Bridge, marking a departure from Ratnam’s usual South Indian settings.
The film marks Ratnam’s return to romance after Thug Life (2025) with Kamal Haasan, and continues his iconic collaboration with Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman, who will score the music.
Cinematography is by Avik Mukhopadhayay (Pink, Sardar Udham) and editing by Sreekar Prasad. It is produced by Subaskaran, Mani Ratnam and Siva Ananth.
