Mammootty’s film with Nithish Sahadev titled ‘Mela’; first look out on 75th birthday
Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s upcoming film with director Nithish Sahadev has been titled Mela, with makers unveiling the first look at midnight on Monday, September 7, coinciding with the legendary actor’s 75th birthday.
The poster, shared by Mammootty and his banner Mammootty Kampany, shows the actor in a mass avatar — in a black shirt and black mundu, wielding a machete, seated in what appears to be a dilapidated circus tent. The film is billed as a massive mass action-comedy entertainer.”Presenting The Title & First Look Poster of Our 9th Production Venture #MELA Directed by Nithish Sahadev,” Mammootty wrote.
The film marks the ninth production venture of Mammootty Kampany and will be distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. It is co-written by Nithish Sahadev and Anuraj OB, with cinematography by Jimshi Khalid, editing by Bles Thomas and music by Vishnu Vijay.
It is Nithish’s third directorial after the family entertainer Falimy (2023) and Tamil hit Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil (2026).
Interestingly, it is the second Mammootty film with the same title. The actor had a supporting role as a motorcycle stunt performer in K.G. George’s 1980 film Mela, set against a circus backdrop starring Reghu in the lead. The new project, styled as Mammoottyude Mela, has no connection to the earlier classic.
Beyond Mela, Mammootty’s lineup includes Khalid Rahman’s Mattancherry Mafia, Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Padayaatra — reuniting after 32 years — and Tamil film OM – Chapter 1 with Dhanush.
