Lockport restaurant owner delivers Easter kindness to fulfill dying man’s last wish
Lockport, New York: When 67-year-old Frank Ozimek reached his final hours at Niagara Hospice, his last wish wasn’t for himself. After six weeks of cancer treatment with no success, the father of three asked his younger brother Ken for one favor. It was to treat the nursing staff to a meal as a way to repay their kindness.
Ken searched online but found every restaurant closed for Easter. Eventually, he reached Tommy Milani, owner of Sub Delicious pizza and subs in Lockport.“I said, ‘Absolutely, whatever you need, Ken,’” Milani told WKBW. “They do an amazing job there. They’re all saints.”
Milani shelved his Easter plans and spent the day preparing and delivering pizzas for the entire hospice nursing staff. For Frank’s family, the gesture meant everything in a moment of loss. “To me, it means the world to see that kindness, that greatness spread,” Ken said. “And I hope when people see this story, they take it and say, ‘Why can’t we do this and spread joy and kindness to each other?’”Described by his brother as looking like “a big, bad biker guy,” Frank Ozimek was a lifelong music lover who enjoyed the Niagara Falls Blues Festival and had a deep connection to the outdoors. He is survived by his three children and five grandchildren.
One final act of thanks, made possible by a restaurant owner’s generosity, became Frank’s last gift: a meal shared in gratitude for the care he received.
