Karnataka sets up India’s first State-led space tech Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Karnataka has launched the country’s first State-led Centre of Excellence for Space Technology in Bengaluru, aiming to turn space innovation into scalable, commercial outcomes.

The Centre of Excellence for Space Technology, also called CoE SpaceTech Foundation, has been established by the State government through the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society in collaboration with SIA-India.

The idea is to drive advanced research and innovation in space technologies, industry-aligned training and talent development, startup incubation and ecosystem building, and cross-sector applications of space solutions.

Minister for Electronics, IT/BT, and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge said the focus is not just on advancing research, but on creating an ecosystem where innovation can translate into real-world applications, economic growth, and high-quality jobs.

The centre will work closely with industry, academia, and startups to strengthen India’s capabilities in the space sector. Bengaluru, already home to ISRO and a growing private space industry, will anchor the initiative as it looks to boost commercial space applications.

With the launch, Karnataka becomes the first state to set up a dedicated CoE for space technology, signaling a push to position the state as a hub for space innovation and entrepreneurship.
