ISRO successfully tests key Gaganyaan crew module systems

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday, July 12, 2026 said it had successfully carried out three major tests of the Gaganyaan crew module systems.

The tests were conducted as part of preparations for India’s first human spaceflight mission.

Key Tests ConductedAccording to ISRO, the first test focused on ensuring an upright position for the crew module after splashdown in the sea. The agency described it as one of the most important crew safety requirements.

Another test involved the separation of the ‘umbilical mechanism’. The umbilical serves as a link between the crew module, where astronauts will live, and the service module, which provides propulsion.

ISRO said all three tests were successful. The Gaganyaan mission aims to demonstrate India’s capability to send humans to space and bring them back safely. The crew module and its associated systems are central to astronaut safety during launch, in-orbit operations, and recovery.
