International Tiger Day: Tigers thrive far Beyond Jungles
On International Tiger Day, experts highlight how the world’s largest cat lives in far more than just tropical jungles.
From Russia’s frozen forests where Amur tigers survive -30°C with thick fur, to India’s Sundarbans mangroves where Bengal tigers swim through tidal creeks, tigers have adapted to 7 extreme habitats.
Others include the tall grasslands of Kaziranga and Dudhwa, Himalayan foothills in Corbett and Bhutan, Southeast Asia’s rainforests, India’s dry deciduous forests like Kanha and Ranthambore, and riverine wetlands across Asia.
Conservationists call tigers an “umbrella species” — protecting them also protects carbon-rich forests, wetlands, and wildlife like rhinos and elephants.
