Five decades of Shipra Bhattacharya’s art on display in Kolkata retrospective ‘In Bloom’

A retrospective celebrating 50 years of artist Shipra Bhattacharya’s work opened at a Kolkata gallery on Tuesday, July 14.

Titled ‘In Bloom’, the exhibition brings together a large body of the veteran artist’s paintings, drawings and sculptures, tracing her practice from the last five decades.

Ms. Bhattacharya is known for her evocative portrayals of women and emotionally layered visual narratives. Through the works on view, she explores themes of identity, memory, resilience and transformation.

Seen together, the pieces highlight the evolution of her engagement with womanhood and the human condition — from early works to her more recent explorations.

‘In Bloom’ offers Kolkata audiences a complete look at one of the city’s most respected contemporary artists, known for combining personal memory with broader social reflection.
