India’s GalaxEye launches world’s first OptoSAR satellite ‘Mission Drishti’ aboard SpaceX Falcon 9

Bengaluru: Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR satellite developed by Bengaluru-based space startup GalaxEye, was successfully launched on Sunday aboard a Falcon 9 by SpaceX from Vandenberg, California.

Weighing 190 kilograms, Mission Drishti is India’s largest privately developed Earth observation satellite.

The satellite combines optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors on a single platform, enabling all-weather, day-and-night high-resolution imaging. The OptoSAR technology aims to overcome limitations of traditional satellites where clouds and darkness often obstruct optical data.

Mission Drishti is expected to serve sectors including defence, disaster management, agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring by delivering continuous, actionable geospatial intelligence.

The successful launch marks a major milestone for India’s private space sector and positions GalaxEye as a key player in next-generation Earth observation capabilities.
