Chennai: India-flagged vessels carrying crude oil have started sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the waterway is “completely open.”
Most of the ships are critical to India’s energy needs and were stranded in the Persian Gulf over the past month. The Hindu has been tracking Indian-flagged vessels and India-bound ships in the region during that period.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key transit route for crude oil shipments to India. The movement of vessels signals easing of passage through the strait for India’s energy supplies.
