‘Dirty Biryani’ brings raw women’s conversations to Hyderabad stage

Hyderabad: Writer Somya Tewari says she missed seeing real conversations between women on television. “They are either shown to be too polished or too mellow. This is not how we talk,” she says.

Her new play, Dirty Biryani, aims to change that. Directed by Snehil Basoya and produced by Bengaluru-based Madari Productions, which Somya founded, the play will be staged at Rangbhoomi Spaces in Hyderabad.

The story follows three women of different ages and opinions, stuck together in one space with no way out. As tensions rise, the play unfolds their lives, conflicts, and unfiltered conversations.

Through Dirty Biryani, the team hopes to present women’s voices as they are — sharp, messy, and authentic — away from TV’s sanitized portrayals.
