Bihar doctor runs free health camps in remote villages, treats over 40,000 patients
Bihar: For Dr. Raman Kishore, personal loss became the reason to choose a different path in medicine.
In his first year of MBBS, he watched his mother fall critically ill in their Bihar village. With no hospital nearby and no doctor able to reach her in time, he made a promise: “No one should ever lose a loved one simply because the hospital was too far away.”
Years later, after becoming the first doctor from his village, Dr. Raman turned down the option of a private practice. Instead, since 2020, he has traveled every weekend to some of Bihar’s most remote villages to run free medical camps.
He funds 80 to 90 percent of the camps himself from his salary, providing consultations, medicines, ECGs, blood sugar tests, and diagnostics at no cost. He does not seek donations or outside support.
Over the years, more than 40,000 people have received treatment through his camps. For many, it has meant early diagnosis, timely care, and access to a doctor where medical help is still rare.
“Doctor saab, you saved my life,” villagers often tell him — words that, for Dr. Raman, echo the promise he made after losing his mother.
For thousands of families across Bihar, he has become the doctor they never thought would come.
