Govt to constitute high-level panel on ‘Banking for Viksit Bharat’

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said the government will soon constitute a high-level panel on ‘Banking for Viksit Bharat’ to undertake a comprehensive review of the banking sector and align it with India’s growth ambitions for 2047.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day ‘PSB Confluence’ (PSB Manthan) ideation conclave organized by the Department of Financial Services, Sitharaman said the committee was first proposed in the Union Budget 2026-27.

The panel will examine how banks can better support credit needs, financial inclusion, digital transformation, and global competitiveness as India moves toward becoming a developed economy.

“In this year’s Budget, we had proposed a high-level committee on ‘Banking for Viksit Bharat’, to comprehensively review the sector and align it with India’s next phase of growth,” Sitharaman said.
