Rekha to be honoured at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Melbourne: Veteran Hindi cinema star Rekha will attend the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as guest of honour this year, where she will be presented with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award.

The festival will screen her classic Umrao Jaan as a tribute to her career. The screening is intended to celebrate Rekha’s unparalleled body of work and extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.

Across a career spanning decades, Rekha has starred in landmark films including Silsila, Khoobsurat, Ijaazat, Ghar, Khoon Bhari Maang, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Koi… Mil Gaya.

Festival organizers said the honour recognizes her lasting impact on Indian film and her status as one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic actors.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will feature the special screening and award ceremony during its 2026 edition.
