MD Pallavi unites poetic traditions on equality in multilingual concert at Bangalore International Centre

Bengaluru: Vocalist MD Pallavi, accompanied by guitarist Srinivas Achar, performed a multilingual concert titled Atmageete at the Bangalore International Centre earlier this month.

Curated by Professor Chandan Gowda and sponsored by Vidyashilp University, the concert brought together poems on equality from pre-modern India. The aim, Gowda said, was to unite verses from different poetic traditions under “the common idea of equality.”

The setlist spanned centuries and languages, with compositions set to music by Pallavi herself. Poets featured included Narayan Guru and Mir Taqi Mir, among others.

Speaking about the performance, Pallavi noted the distinctiveness of each language. “Every language has its own set of sounds,” she said, adding that she switched between them with ease during the concert.Her clear vocals, supported by Achar’s guitar, gave each verse a different shade while keeping the theme of equality central to the evening.

The concert highlighted how music can bridge diverse literary traditions and bring historical voices on social equity to contemporary audiences.
