Prime Video’s ‘Phoolan’ selected for special presentation at TIFF 2026
Mumbai: Prime Video announced that its original film Phoolan has been selected for a Special Presentation at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The Hindi action drama will have its festival screening on September 16 at 6 PM ET at the Princess of Wales Theatre. TIFF 2026 will run from September 10 to 20.
Directed and co-written by Richie Mehta, the film is inspired by I, Phoolan – The Autobiography of India’s Bandit Queen by Phoolan Devi. It focuses on a defining chapter in her life — when thousands of men trap her in a village in an attempt to kill her.
Produced by Namah Pictures, the film is produced by Shareen Mantri Kedia, Kishor Arora, Kanwal Kohli, and Richie Mehta.
Phoolan joins the lineup of Indian stories heading to TIFF this year, bringing a biographical action drama rooted in one of India’s most well-known and contested historical figures to a global audience.
