Chennai exhibition ‘The Last Glimpse’ turns waste into art on endangered species

Chennai: Artist Kalyani Pramod will present her solo exhibition ‘The Last Glimpse’ at the Alliance Française of Madras from July 18, 2026.

The mixed-media textile show features 73 artworks inspired by endangered species from across the world. Each piece is crafted using discarded materials including textile scraps, metal wires, construction waste, newspaper and found objects.

Through techniques like crochet, weaving, embroidery, punch needle and sculpture, Pramod transforms waste into portraits of birds and animals threatened by human actions. The works include species such as the great Indian bustard and the yellow-breasted bunting.

Speaking about the exhibition, Pramod said she believes in using art to create awareness. “I don’t believe in protest marches alone. Art is a great medium for creating awareness. It can tell people, subtly, that these are the areas of concern,” she said.

‘The Last Glimpse’ aims to encourage viewers to pause, observe, and reflect on environmental concerns.
