Chennai audience connects with ‘Veera’, a play about a filmmaker’s struggle

Koothapiran Navabharath Theatres staged Veera at Narada Gana Sabha this week, and the Tamil play was well received by Chennai audiences.

Written and directed by Vignesh R., Veera tells the story of a young man chasing his dream of becoming a film director. The narrative moves through hope, setbacks, and missed opportunities. The protagonist’s downfall comes from both fate and his own impulsiveness. After an argument with a producer’s son at a pub, the producer pulls out of a signed film deal and asks for the advance back.

A highlight of the production was its digital background, which created a movie-like atmosphere on stage and added to the storytelling.

The play reflects the challenges faced by aspiring filmmakers — ambition, rejection, and self-sabotage — and struck a chord with theatergoers in the city.
