Bridlington Park celebrates birth of zebra Zuri
Bridlington: A Grant’s zebra foal named Zuri — Swahili for “beautiful” — has been born at Bridlington Animal Park.
Keepers found the newborn on Sunday morning. The foal’s parents are four-year-old Lola and Marty, who have lived at the park since they were foals. The gender of Zuri is not yet known.
Park owner Paul Woodward said the birth was the park’s “biggest achievement” and called it an emotional moment after finishing chemotherapy and radiotherapy. “When we walked in to a baby in the morning, it made me cry,” he said.
Keepers report Zuri is “doing amazing” and Lola is caring for it well. The foal is in a large field with access to a stable.Grant’s zebras are listed as ‘near threatened’ and live in central and southern Africa.
The park has also welcomed four flamingo chicks and a baby porcupine this month.
