Hyderabad: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has granted a certificate of registration to Prudential HCL Health Insurance to carry on health insurance business in the country.
With the approval, the number of standalone health insurers operating in India has increased to eight, IRDAI said in a release Wednesday.
The regulator said it took the decision to grant the registration at its meeting on June 29. This is the third registration granted by IRDAI during calendar year 2026.
Standalone health insurers focus exclusively on health and medical coverage, unlike general insurers who offer multiple product lines.
The approval comes as India’s health insurance sector sees rising demand for specialized coverage and increased private participation following regulatory reforms.
