Centre launches new push for maternal health, emergency care at health council meet

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday unveiled a series of initiatives to strengthen maternal and child healthcare, emergency medical services, and anaemia control at the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW).

Chairing the conference, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda said the government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 could not be realised without a healthy population, describing health as one of the key pillars of national development.

The meeting highlighted improvements in key health indicators and called for greater Centre-State collaboration to achieve universal health coverage.

While details of the new initiatives were not immediately released, officials said the focus areas include reducing maternal and infant mortality, upgrading emergency response systems, and intensifying efforts to combat anaemia, particularly among women and children.

Nadda urged states to work in close coordination with the Centre to ensure effective implementation and last-mile delivery of health programmes.
