Zero tariffs on Indian pharma under India–Oman CEPA to boost exports, says Pharmexcil

Hyderabad: Indian pharmaceutical, AYUSH, and wellness sectors are set to gain from the upcoming India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, exporters body Pharmexcil said ahead of its implementation.

Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India Director General Raja Bhanu said zero tariffs on Indian pharmaceutical products will take effect from the date the CEPA becomes operational.

The exemption covers active pharmaceutical ingredients and formulations, he noted in a recent communication to members. “One of the immediate benefits under the CEPA framework would be implementation of zero tariffs on Indian pharmaceutical products, including active pharmaceutical ingredients and formulations, from the date of operationalisation,” Bhanu said.

The move is expected to make Indian drugs more competitive in Oman and strengthen trade ties between the two countries. Oman is a key market for Indian generics and wellness products in the Gulf region.

The CEPA aims to reduce trade barriers and expand market access across sectors. For pharma exporters, the tariff removal could open new supply contracts and boost volumes to Oman.

Pharmexcil has asked member companies to prepare for the opportunities the agreement will create once implemented.
