Femme music duo launches Indie Grrrl to back struggling women artistes in India
Mumbai: Chanting along to ‘Run This World’ hits different when you know what drives you. For women artistes still finding their footing, Sanoli Chowdhury and Vinod Gadher want to provide that backing.
In 2024, the duo behind Femme Music launched Indie Grrrl, a community built for female artistes across India.“Our idea was to provide a space that was safe and accessible for women whether it was posting about shows, hosting workshops and the like,” says Sanoli.
The platform focuses on practical support. Members share gig calls, collaborate on tracks, and join skill workshops covering production, booking, and rights. It also serves as a network where artistes trade advice without gatekeeping.
India’s independent music scene is growing, but women often navigate it with fewer resources and higher safety concerns. Indie Grrrl aims to close that gap by centralizing opportunities and peer mentorship.
Femme Music has already used the community to spotlight new talent and organize sessions with industry professionals. The goal is simple: fewer barriers between a struggling artiste and the stage.
For Chowdhury and Gadher, the measure of success is not a viral track. It is when a member books her first paid show, finishes a demo, or finds a collaborator she trusts.
