Manoj Bajpayee plays RBI governor in 1990s financial drama ‘Governor’, trailer out

Mumbai: The trailer for Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film Governor was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film hits theatres on June 12.

Inspired by real events, the political drama is set during India’s financial crisis in the 1990s. Bajpayee plays an economist appointed as RBI governor at the peak of the turmoil.

The trailer shows violent public outrage as the economy falters. To stabilize the situation, his character initiates a secret mission to airlift over 60 tonnes of gold out of the country.

The decision triggers sharp backlash. Adah Sharma plays a journalist leading the counter-opinion against the governor’s radical move.

Packed with high-stakes decisions and political tension, the film leans on Bajpayee’s restrained performance to drive the story.
