Mumbai: India will soon have one of the fastest elevators in the world, capable of travelling at 10 metres per second, Otis India said.
The company has received an order from Prestige Estates to install two super-fast elevators at the under-construction The Prestige at Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. Once complete, the tower will be India’s tallest commercial building.
At 10 metres per second, the elevators will be the fastest in India. The speed matches systems currently in use at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, where 124 floors are covered in less than a minute.
While China operates elevators that travel at double the speed, this will be the first time India installs lifts of this class.
Otis India, one of the country’s largest elevator firms, said the order is for two units that will serve the high-rise. The company called it a prestigious project.
The Prestige at Mahalaxmi is still under construction. Once installed, the elevators will mark a new benchmark for vertical transport speed in India.
