Maharashtra to overtake Singapore, UAE economies in 2-3 years: CM Fadnavis

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the state is poised to surpass the economies of Singapore and the UAE in the next two to three years, driven by rapid growth in innovation, artificial intelligence, startups and infrastructure.

Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Fadnavis said Maharashtra was not competing with any other Indian state as it has already become the world’s 30th largest economy. “Our growth is now benchmarked globally. The pace at which we’re expanding in AI, startups, and infra means we will move past Singapore and UAE soon,” he said.

The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing investments in data centres, semiconductor units, and metro networks as key drivers. He added that the state’s startup ecosystem and policy push in emerging tech were attracting global capital.

Maharashtra, which contributes nearly 13% to India’s GDP, has been pitching itself as a destination for high-tech manufacturing and innovation. Fadnavis did not specify the exact GDP figures used for comparison but said the state’s economic trajectory was “clearly upward” and would be visible in global rankings within the next few years.
