Tencent re-enters India, signs MoUs to boost gaming and AVGC sector
Bengaluru: Tencent has re-entered the Indian market, signing two Memoranda of Understanding on Friday with the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI) to work with the country’s gaming and AVGC sector.
The Chinese tech company has committed an initial investment of over ₹100 million in resources and programmes focused on curriculum development, industry training, and mentorship for India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics industry.
The MoUs aim to strengthen ties between Tencent and India’s gaming ecosystem, supporting skill-building and talent development at a time when the government is pushing AVGC as a key growth area for services exports.
Tencent previously scaled back its India operations following app restrictions in 2020. The new agreements signal a renewed push into the market through collaboration with domestic industry bodies.
