From Delhi slum to social impact: Devendra Kumar’s Ladli Foundation transforms pain into purpose
New Delhi: It is often said that pain shapes us, but for Devendra Kumar, pain became a blueprint for change. Raised in a crime-ridden Delhi slum where safety was a privilege, Kumar now leads the Ladli Foundation, a grassroots movement that has impacted millions across India and beyond.
“What I went through was not just struggle; it was my training. It made me sensitive, turning my pain into passion and passion into purpose,” Kumar said.
Long before awards or scale, there was a child navigating uncertain survival. Those early years in Delhi became the foundation for his later work. The Ladli Foundation today focuses on women’s empowerment, education, healthcare access, and social equity, reaching vulnerable communities nationwide.
Kumar’s story underscores a growing pattern in India’s social sector: lived experience driving large-scale intervention. From slum lanes to policy tables, the founder says his mission remains rooted in the same lesson his childhood taught him — that the most difficult chapters can become a quiet, formidable force for others.
