Telangana sarpanch launches ‘Ma Oori Bangaru Talli’ to celebrate birth of girl children
Nirmal: The birth of a girl child in Ananthapet gram panchayat is now a village-wide celebration, thanks to a new initiative by the local sarpanch.
Madastu Sunitha, sarpanch of Ananthapet in Nirmal Rural mandal, has introduced a scheme titled Ma Oori Bangaru Talli, which means Our Village’s Golden Daughter. The program turns the birth of every girl child into a shared occasion for the entire village, not just the family.
Under the initiative, Sunitha personally visits families to mark the occasion. She presents them with two sandalwood saplings, blending celebration with a message of growth and continuity. The gesture links the arrival of a daughter with the nurturing of a tree, symbolizing a long-term investment in the child’s future and the environment.
The scheme aims to shift social attitudes and give every girl child a headstart by recognizing her birth as a moment of collective pride. By making the event public and planting saplings, the panchayat reinforces the value of girls in the community and encourages families to see daughters as assets.
