7-foot-3 former college basketball star sworn in as Texas police officer

Kemah, Texas: Everyone told Jordan Wilmore to chase a basketball career. At 7-foot-3, he was one of the tallest players in college basketball. But that was never his dream.

Wilmore wanted to help people. So instead of pursuing pro ball, he trained to become a police officer.

This month he was sworn in with the Kemah Police Department, a waterfront community about 35 miles southeast of Houston. He’s now set to be one of the tallest officers on the force.

The decision even drew encouragement from NBA legend Shaq, who has long championed athletes moving into public service.

Wilmore says the job is a chance to serve his community in a new way — trading the court for a badge, but keeping the same goal of looking out for others.In Kemah, residents are already getting used to seeing their new, 7-foot-3 officer on patrol.
