‘Youngest Chef of Gujarat’ takes ancient Indian Ffavors to Australia with The Secret Kitchen

Ahmedabad: What started as a dream at age six became a restaurant empire at 19 — and now it’s crossing oceans. Aanal Kotak, once crowned the ‘Youngest Chef of Gujarat’ after winning a competition at 19, is taking her restaurant chain The Secret Kitchen to Australia. The brand is known for giving ancient Indian recipes a modern twist, blending culture with culinary theater.

Walk into The Secret Kitchen in Ahmedabad and you’ll find dishes that are more than food — they’re stories. One of the most popular is the ‘Caged Samosa’, inspired by a 100-year-old shop in Kutch that Aanal discovered during her research.

“I loved the recipe so much that I brought it to my restaurant,” she tells. “Here, I wanted the serving to represent how the samosa had found a new lease on life and from a small town had now found its way to so many others. So I began serving it in a cage, hence the name.”

Each dish on the menu borrows from deep-rooted traditions but arrives with a unique spin, turning heritage into an experience. Now, Aanal is betting that Australian diners are hungry for that same magic.
