UP’s Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary named India’s 100th Ramsar site
Lucknow: India has reached a conservation milestone with the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh designated as the country’s 100th Ramsar site, PTI reported.
The Ramsar Convention recognizes wetlands of international importance for their ecological value. The new designation highlights the sanctuary’s role in supporting biodiversity, especially waterbirds and wetland habitats.
Located in Uttar Pradesh, the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary is home to a range of resident and migratory bird species. The site, seen here with a red-wattled lapwing in its wetland habitat, contributes to India’s growing network of protected wetlands.
With this addition, India now has 100 Ramsar sites, strengthening its commitment to wetland conservation under the global Ramsar Convention.
