Reliance, Meta to build 168 MW AI data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat
New Delhi: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has entered into an agreement with Meta Platforms, Inc. to develop a 168 MW AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking Meta’s first built-to-suit facility in India.
RIL will deliver the facility within two years, with an option to scale capacity further. Meta will lease capacity from the centre to support its global infrastructure, core business operations and AI compute needs.
Under the deal, Reliance will act as a single-window solutions provider handling end-to-end services: design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity and fully managed operations. The data centre will run on renewable energy and use desalinated seawater for cooling. Jamnagar’s location also gives access to Jio’s fibre network and India’s western submarine cable landing stations.
“This partnership with Meta marks a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure,” RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani said, adding that Jamnagar will become a “landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing”. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called it Meta’s first AI-enabled data centre in India and said it would help scale Meta’s AI infrastructure globally while deepening investment in India’s economy.
The project aligns with the government’s plan to treat data centres as strategic national infrastructure and attract global AI investment. RIL has committed ₹10 lakh crore, about $110 billion, to build multi-gigawatt AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar with partners including Google, Meta and OpenAI. Meta is also separately contracting nearly 1 GW of renewable energy in India through CleanMax and Fourth Partner Energy.
RIL shares rallied nearly 2% to ₹1,292.90 on the NSE Wednesday morning following the announcement.
